RM100million Dress For Sale?

Its mind boggling that in these tough economic times, a RM100mil(%$#@???) dress will be auctioned off at a fundraising show in conjunction with the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix this coming Friday. Funds raised will be donated to a Gaza fundraising initiative but only 5% of the sale price will be credited to the charity!!wth...

“Nightingale of KL” is designed by Faisol Abdullah of Jendela KL with 750 pieces of diamonds weighing over 1,000 carats held together by a pear-shaped 70-carat diamond from jeweller Mouawad.Celebrity designer Datuk Jimmy Choo will provide the shoes.

Only 500 handpicked(filthy rich i presume!) guests would get to view the dress and shoe ensemble and then bid on it if they chose to. Since you and me are not one of the 500, we will settle on just gazing at the sketch of this dress for the time being.

Faisol described the “Nightingale of KL” as a couture evening gown in STYLO’s corporate colours of red and burgundy and created out of 14m of silk and satin Malaysian batik.

He said the way the dress has been designed allows it to be customised to the needs of the buyer. “As an investment, the dress is of excellent value,” said Mouawad Malaysia managing director Antoine Bakache.“The diamonds, if sold individually, cost RM150mil,” he said(fancy sales talk la!).

STYLO Fashion Grand Prix KL will be held from March 28 to April 5 in four different locations in Kuala Lumpur. The main venue is a specially-erected STYLO Fashion Cube on the 91.6ha grounds of the KL Lake Gardens.

Hello Kitty Hospital

I saw this on someone's blog and thought its kinda a novel idea but must be pretty expensive to give birth at this hospital in Taiwan.

The Hello Kitty-themed 30-bed Hau Sheng Maternity Hospital in Yuanlin in central Taiwan is aimed at easing the stress of childbirth with images of the popular cartoon character.

The hospital's director Tsai Tsung-chi opened the £2m hospital in his hometown after obtaining authorisation from the fictitious cat's Japanese parent company Sanrio Co Ltd.

Patients are welcomed by a statue of Hello Kitty dressed in a doctor's uniform, before travelling in a Hello Kitty elevator to a pink examination room with Hello Kitty posters on the wall.

From blankets and birth certificates to cots and uniforms worn by staff, every aspect of the Hello Kitty hospital is emblazoned with the feline motif.

Describing the objectives of the hospital, he said: "I wish that everyone who comes here, mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from an illness, can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster."

Newborns are wrapped in Hello Kitty blankets - pink for the girls, sky blue for the boys.

Hello Kitty fans all over the world should consider this hospital when having their babies...i mean how cute is this?!

Personally i feel kinda "jilak"(nauseous) looking at all the 'pinkness' but i suppose for others it beats the normal stainless steel and bland hospital environments.

Cherry Blossoms

When I went to Tokyo a couple of years ago , it was spring time, and the cherry blossoms were out in full force. All of us took opportunity and had a marvellous time taking pics with the lovely flowers/trees.

Well take a look at these.................

In Japan, lovers take opportunity to enjoy the lovely cherry blossoms...........

Would you be surprised if i told you all these pics were taken in Penang?? Even in KL you may have spotted one or two before right? These pics if i am not mistaken were taken at Bayan Baru, along Persiaran Mahsuri, and parts of Jalan Mahsuri and Jalan Mayang Pasir 2.

The scientific name for this beautiful roadside flowering tree is Tabebuia. It produces flowers that range in colour from white to various shades of pink, and is often regarded as the "Cherry Blossoms of Penang". Incidentally, it blooms around between late February and early March, approximately one month earlier than the famous cherry blossoms of Japan. Having seen "the real thing" in Japan, I have to say that Tabebuia is just as pretty, if not more so.

When the Tabebuia is in full bloom, the whole tree can be covered with flowers, with little view of the leaves. The flowers are as thin and fragile as tissue paper, which results in another local nickname for the flowers, "pokok kertas tisu". Other common names for the Tabebuia includes Pink Poui, Rosy Trumpet Tree and Pink Tecoma.

Just in case you still dont believe me...this is definitely not a Japanese family!

Yung Kee Century Eggs

If you are ever by chance in Hong Kong, you really have to go to this restaurant at Central called Yung Kee Restaurant. Ask any HK local and they should be able to direct you to this restaurant that is reputable for their specialty roast goose.

Infact many a foreigner have ordered this roast goose as takeaway and taken it back to their own country to be further enjoyed with family and friends. For that, Yung Kee's roast goose has been dubbed the "flying roast goose" or the "roast jet goose"!!

Well another takeaway that Yung Kee is famous for is their Preserved Century Eggs. If you had dined at their restaurant before, you would have enjoyed a plate of their century egg with pickled ginger as an apetizer.

You can buy these takeaways at their restaurant's foyer even if you are not dining in. A box of century eggs (made with duck eggs)without ginger costs HK45 for 6 pieces and with ginger costs HK60! A bit pricey you may say, but after eating Yung Kee's century eggs, you would not enjoy others!

(Century egg, also known as preserved egg, hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg, and thousand-year-old egg, is a Chinese cuisine ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice straw for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing. After the process is completed, the yolk becomes a dark green, cream-like substance with a strong odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, transparent jelly with little flavour or taste. The transforming agent in the century egg is its alkaline material, which gradually raises the pH of the egg from around 9 to 12 or more. This chemical process breaks down some of the complex, flavorless proteins and fats, which produces a variety of smaller flavourful compounds.) excerpt from Wikipedia

What you can do is just buy the century eggs back. Then pop over to the supermarket or sundry shop for a bottle of pickled ginger .

Finally you can enjoy the egg with the ginger in the comfort of your home. See the soft centre of the egg. Creamy and delicious. Eat the egg with the ginger to eliminate the slight ammonia odor/taste.

But of course if you are in Hong Kong, do drop by to Yung Kee for their roast goose, noodles and try this egg apetizer yourself. The bill would be abit on the high side, but you wont regret it. The crowds of customers at every dining hour is proof and testimony to the 60-over years history of good food at this place.

After dining, just "tabau"back some for me!! I recommended this restaurant and their century eggs to my bro's girlfriend over a year ago. Now whenever she or any of her friends go to HK, she will get them to 'tabau' back! So as introducer, I get some to eat as well! You see, every good deed is well repaid....lol.

My Firstborn

Seems like only just yesterday, you were an egg inside me, there you grew and you showed me your independant and stubborn streak when you refused to turn upside down to birthing position. The gynae tried all ways and means to turn you but finally he had to cut me up to take you out! LOL

When you were growing up, you were always a joy to me...very independant from the start. You went to nursery school all by yourself at 3years old sitting in the kindi uncle's car with all the other older kids. I followed secretly behind but you didnt cry ...not one bit even when all the other older kids were bawling their eyes out!

You sat quietly on my lap when i read to you and you adored your little bro when he came out 2years later eventho you had vehemently requested for a little sister.Even when times were difficult and you struggled with me, nevertheless we made it thru and you aced your way thru all the major school exams.

Yesterday you did me proud again when you aced again thru your SPM results! God gave me a great blessing 17years ago and that was you...my firstborn.

Generation Y

The Silent generation, people born before 1946.

The Baby Boomers, people born between 1946 and 1959.

Generation X ,people born between 1960 and 1979.

Generation Y, people born between 1980 and 2000.Why do we call the last one Generation Y?

I did not know, but a caricaturist explains it eloquently below...Learned something new!

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Okay i must confess i am kind of a shopaholic but more of a window shopaholic la....i like to see and browse but that doesnt mean i will blow my credit card on frivolous things like the main character in this show! I was introduced to this show or book(earlier) by syd who likes the author Sophie Kinsella. FYI Sophie Kinsella is the author of the "shopaholic" series of books.

Anyway i didnt read the novel as I thought it was kinda shallow reading...more for young girls la! But when the movie features Isla Fisher(who is like a new generation Lucille Ball), one couldnt resist watching the movie...online what more?! Isla Fisher has the title role of Rebecca Bloomwood, an accidental "financial analyst writer" who is truly addicted to all things branded.

Anyway not to ruin the movie for those of you girls who havent watched it, go and see it if you like something light, entertaining and funny. Ogle at the clothes and accessories!! But you probably shouldnt bring your boyfriends or husbands along, as they might get scared off....!lol

Microsoft HQ

Look at the cute post box!!

If the grounds of my office look anything remotely like this, I wouldnt want to go home.

Bro posing with Bill Gates?

Okay so my bro went to the Microsoft HQ in Redmond and guess which one is he and which one is Billy Gates??LOL
Those Microsoft geeks/bosses are very clever. RAther than posing with everyone, they put this stand-up cardboard pics of themselves and you just go and pose with those.

What's their beef?

Why are they so against teaching Science and Math in English???! Their parents probably studied it in English. And look at how backwards our education system is when those subjects were taught in BM!
haiz....causing jams in kl....&%$#

Its time to learn how to swim

Seriously dont you think its high time we learn how to swim? This aint a joke cos the floods just came suddenly on Tuesday and short of climbing on top of your car to escape....Either that or better yet, make sure you have a float in your car!!

The SMART Tunnel has officially been renamed as the BODOH Tunnel as it was only activated after the floods came and not before. Better than nothing you may say...but well the Tunnel was supposed to have been built as a preventive measure against floods,ISNT IT? All our tax payers money went flowing away with the water................sigh.

Microsoft MVP Summit 2009

My younger bro who is with Microsoft is in Seattle attending this Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Summit. lol....Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals, or MVPs, are awarded by Microsoft for their deep technical expertise, product knowledge, continuous feedback and consistent representation of the “voice of the customer." Their contributions help Microsoft to evolve its programs and products. MVPs are thought leaders and are committed to helping others get the most out of their experience with Microsoft products and technologies.

Anyway he is very "bangga" la...cos he has only been with Microsoft for one over year and got this award. So now he is enjoying himself in a 5-star hotel in Seattle. See pix i pinched from his Facebook. He is the one with the red face(must have been drinking!)and wearing spectacles. Do you know they even name their dinner as MVP Summit Geek Dinner!!?

One thing about these computer geeks, their conventions are so informal! I remember at all my sales conventions the dress code was always Formal. Thats the diff between geeks and normal folk...haha. Good thing is you dont have to pack your formal leather shoes and formal wear so this is a plus point. Since my bro is extending his trip after the summit to San Francisco, the less baggage the better...and more space in his luggage for our shopping requests!!! yea...

I havent been to Seattle before but this is the info i gathered from the net.Seattle is one of America's most iconic cities. It gained popularity in the 90's as the home of grunge rock, good coffee(the 1st Starbucks is located here!), and Microsoft. It continues to grow on the strength of its natural beauty, nice people and countless tech startups. The setting for "Grey's Anatomy", Seattle captures the public's imagination as a hip, smart, and trend-setting city. It also gets a lot of rain!

Popular Myths regarding Cancer

Scary e-mails circulating on the Internet claim everyday objects, such as plastic and deodorant, are secret cancer causes. Beyond being wrong, many of the myths passed on through forwarded e-mails may cause you to worry unnecessarily about your own health and the health of your family.

Before you panic, take a look at the facts. Here, Timothy Moynihan, M.D., a cancer specialist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., takes a closer look at some popular myths about cancer causes and explains why they just aren't true.

Myth No. 1 -Antiperspirants or deodorants can cause breast cancer.
According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), there's no conclusive evidence linking the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants with breast cancer.

Some reports have suggested that these products contain harmful substances that can be absorbed through the skin or enter the body through nicks caused by shaving. According to the NCI, some scientists have also proposed that certain antiperspirant and deodorant ingredients called parabens may be associated with breast cancer because they're applied frequently to an area next to the breast.

Two studies of underarm antiperspirants and deodorants and breast cancer have provided conflicting results:

In 2002, a study involving 1,606 women evaluated the possible relationship between breast cancer and underarm antiperspirants and deodorants. This study showed no increased risk of breast cancer in women who used these products.

A 2004 study found parabens in 18 of 20 tissue samples from breast tumors. Parabens, which act like estrogen in the body, are preservatives used in antiperspirants and deodorants. However, this study didn't prove that parabens cause breast cancer. Also, the study didn't identify the source of the parabens. More research is needed to evaluate whether the use of antiperspirants or deodorants causes parabens to accumulate in breast tissue and whether these chemicals increase the risk of breast cancer.

Unlike lung cancer, for instance, where you see a steady rise in cancer rates when the smoking rate increases, there isn't a clear link between the use of antiperspirants and breast cancer. In the United States today, more than 90 percent of adults regularly use an antiperspirant or deodorant. But the breast cancer incidence rates and death rates for women haven't changed significantly since the 1930s—when, presumably, fewer people used antiperspirants or deodorants on a regular basis. For smoking and lung cancer there is a clear association—women began smoking in larger numbers in the 1940s, and lung cancer deaths rose significantly beginning in the 1970s.

Myth No. 2 -Microwaving plastic containers and wraps releases harmful, cancer-causing substances into food.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), stories have circulated for years about the harm from chemicals in plastics leaching into microwaved foods. There is some evidence that substances used to make certain plastics can migrate into some foods. But the FDA has evaluated the migration levels of these substances and has found them to be well within the margin of safety.

The FDA carefully reviews the substances used to make plastics designed for food use, including microwave-safe plastic wraps and containers. These plastics are classified as "food contact substances." The FDA must find them safe for their intended use before these products can be marketed as such.

Other claims have suggested that plastics contain dioxins, a group of contaminants labeled as a "likely human carcinogen" by the Environmental Protection Agency. But according to the FDA, there is no evidence that plastic containers or wraps contain dioxins.

Myth No. 3 -People with cancer shouldn't eat sugar, since it can cause cancer to grow faster.

Sugar doesn't make cancer grow faster. All cells, including cancer cells, depend on blood sugar (glucose) for energy. But giving more sugar to cancer cells doesn't speed their growth. Likewise, depriving cancer cells of sugar doesn't slow their growth.

This misconception may be based in part on a misunderstanding of positron emission tomography (PET) scans. Doctors use PET scans to help determine the location of a tumor and see if it has spread.

During a PET scan, your doctor injects a small amount of radioactive tracer—typically a form of glucose—into your body. All tissues in your body absorb some of this tracer. But tissues that are using more energy—exhibiting increased metabolic activity—absorb greater amounts.

Tumors are often more metabolically active than are healthy tissues. As a result, they may absorb greater amounts of the tracer. For this reason, some people have concluded that cancer cells grow faster on sugar. But this isn't true.

Hakka Restaurant

This is one dish you shouldnt miss in Hakka Restaurant...Fried Beehoon with Crab. Only thing is it costs RM118!! The crab weighs 1kg. Pretty expensive as its only beehoon, right? But then its fried just nice with curry leaves and spices.

Speaking of Hakka Restaurant, it has shifted further down the road on Jalan Kia Peng. It is now located at the intersection with Wisma Cosway facing the side of Pavillion. Service has dropped abit though the food standard is still good.
